Toronto Hippo Tours: I Went On A Bus - In The Water.......

Some time ago I in the streets of Toronto colorful bus type vehicles have seen these strange shapes, and I was wondering what they were. I caught a second glimpse and I "Toronto Hippo Tour" saw, and I realized that neither of these buses on the streets of Toronto sightseeing only carry passengers, but also in the waters of Lake Ontario. Given that this form of intermodal transportation is definitely unconventional, it recently occurred to me that I do an interview with the company and myself to be one of the vehicles.

They certainly look ridiculous vehicles with a rounded snout, bright "Hippo Ride" telling, painting and rear entry where you board a retractable running a set of metal stairs.

Today I draw O'Gilvie the Director of Sales and Marketing for Toronto Hippo Tour met with. To draw used to be director of sales for Delta Hotels and obviously has a lot of tourism marketing experience.

1. With the floating of us who just came up with a plan to tell a company? How long has company been in business?

Jeffrey Lind 5 years since he founded Toronto Hippo Tour "Duck" concept, the famous amphibian vehicle tours in Boston, wanted to bring to Toronto. The company had 25,000 passengers last year and we still hope to surpass that number this year. Themselves instead of calling a sightseeing company, we own an "urban safari", a true urban adventure to consider.

2. Hippos are so many? What makes them special?

We currently have one that just recently was completed just last license, a complex process that federal and provincial authorities and includes security checks to wait for 3 with 2 vehicles in operation. Canadian vehicles are designed and built based on a school bus platform. Unlike other places, they clear WWII or Korean War amphibian vehicles are not. They are carefully checked for safety every day greased. We love our 3 amphibian vehicles Harry says, happy and Henrietta, our latest addition.

3. Tell us about your route and your time. Tours narrated?

Hippo tours are 1.5 hours long and cover the ground at major Toronto sites spend about 1 hour, a tour guide to all professionals who are licensed by the hearing aid. We end of October to the beginning of May from 11 am to 6 pm tours run every hour.

4. Tell us about prices. It's possible to book a private tour for the vehicles?

Prices very reasonable at C $ 35.00 per adult, or C or $ 30.00 for seniors, and C for children under 12 years are $ 23.00. Vehicles can also be chartered for special occasions, often for both business groups and birthday parties hired by private individuals. C drive, which holds 40 passengers per $ 500.00, it can be a very affordable special event.

5. Captains and tour guides receive specific training on your comments please.

Our guides are certified in St. John's Ambulance and CPR, and all restricted engineer. They Marine captain with government officials as they go through strict testing ground for school bus drivers to be operating vessel is licensed.

Drew after the interview, I had a chance to really sample Hippo experience and I found myself on board, myself plunking down the captain, which in this case the name of Catherine was right behind a sporty-looking woman. We as a tour guide who competently entertainingly and with breaks between the major sites mentioned had some dry joke. Dan's name was a guide with us. He has yet to finish his road license and licensing process already completed part of the sea.

Vehicles with a very leisurely pace through the streets of Toronto passes. Our Way Royal York Hotel, Union Station, Yonge Street with Bay, Eaton Centre and Dundas Square, including such notable sites. We then headed on down the old Elm Street past the New City Hall on Bay Street. I especially Old Toronto City Hall, where a famous architect Toronto city counselors who gargoyles ugly as depicted by their likenesses for their cost overruns took revenge on her criticism enjoyed the story about the nose. We then headed past the Queens University campus University Avenue Toronto (provincial government buildings) and on the park.

From there we snaked our way down through the garment district, near a ramp of Ontario is the place where we were getting ready for the big splash to the base past Toronto loft conversions and condo developments CNE (Canadian National Exhibition grounds ) all admiring - Hippo entry into the water.

It sure was a strange feeling, a bus windshield that suddenly a completely submerged by water at all being. But the vehicle itself straightened out very quickly around Ontario Place and we started chugging slowly into the water. "Happy the Hippo" top speed is about 5 nautical miles, and vehicle on the ground the same engine that's just as well as water transmission propels the propeller. At 20 tons it is a very heavy vehicle and a special ramp to provide access to the Lake Ontario had to be created.

We only wind turbine Toronto Exhibition grounds where we had a good look at the west end took a little spin (we eventually ....) towards green energy production are making baby steps toward where we turned around and back Ontario to be replaced.

During the visit, part of the charity water was running, Catherine, another captain, I stood behind the ship and had a great conversation. Catherine is a former sales insurance specialist since being laid off he went in a completely new career - first as a Hippo tour guide, and he was also fully certified and licensed Hippo Captain has become. Catherine knows a lot about fixing the vehicle and feel like getting his fingers greasy while the maintenance fee on a daily basis just does not. Catherine her off a month from November to April the area of animal protection volunteering his services to protect sloths in Costa Rica, or Cuba to travel extensively as some cool stuff, does not. As a matter of fact, Catherine is a pretty cool and interesting person yourself and I'll be doing a follow-intereview him in the near future.

Back on land we passed by Harbourfront and headed back to the famous Royal York hotel. Shortly after we made a quick left turn and travel parking lot back to the Hippo 151 Front Street, just a little bit of the CN Tower and Rogers Centre headed east (formerly called the Skydome), Toronto retractable the multi-purpose stadium roof.

Katherine and I catch up for about 10 minutes after the tour was over, had a chance, and we briefly about Cuba, something that Catherine in. I was interested to share some information with spoken After traveling a language I had opportunity to study at the University of Havana earlier this year to study Spanish.

It seems to me that Catherine is a bit of a daredevil and I really out to catch her with her new, unconventional life style that a road / lake captain for 6 months of being gone from the sale of corporate am waiting to find out more between years and months have been some other cool stuff ..

Thanks again to draw and spend your time with me and for me the opportunity to explore Toronto on a bus trip to Toronto Hippo whole team - on land and water ...... .
